Leonard Magawa, B.D., LL.B (Hons)., LL.M

Leonard holds a Master of Laws Degree from the University of Alberta, a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Dar es Salaam, and a Bachelor of Divinity Degree from Tumaini University. He also pursued theology at the University of Copenhagen, earning his certification in 1996.

Leonard maintains a broad and dynamic practice, with a strong focus on family law, including divorce, child welfare, family protection, and division of family property. He also represents clients in immigration hearings, real estate transactions, and wills and estates matters, and has significant experience advocating for children in court. Known for his confident courtroom presence, Leonard has appeared before the Alberta Court of Justice, the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta, the Alberta Court of Appeal, and various administrative tribunals. He holds membership in the Law Society of Alberta, the Law Society of Saskatchewan, and the Law Society of the Northwest Territories.

Beyond his practice, Leonard is deeply committed to mentorship and community engagement. He supervises and mentors articling students, young lawyers, and law students through initiatives such as the Business Venture Clinic in Calgary and the Calgary Region Immigrant Employment Council.

Leonard’s career spans both Alberta and Saskatchewan and includes academic contributions as a sessional lecturer in contract law at Keyano College. Earlier in his career, he served as a tutorial assistant at the Institute of Judicial Administration in Tanzania. He is also a published legal scholar, with work featured in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and legal texts.

As a dedicated community leader, Leonard volunteers as a board member with several legal and community organizations across Alberta, reflecting his commitment to service and empowerment. Outside the office, he enjoys spending time with his family and staying active through badminton, soccer, and bowling.

Mabhezya Rehani is a Barrister and Solicitor specializing in Family Law and Immigration. She joined the firm in August 2024, bringing legal experience from Tanzania and Canada.

She earned her LL.B. from the University of Dar es Salaam and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law School of Tanzania. She also holds a Certificate of Qualification from the Federation of Law Societies of Canada and completed her legal training at Lema Law Chambers.

With experience in legal research, advocacy, and client service including roles with the Tanganyika Law Society and as a legal assistant in Canada; Mabhezya takes a collaborative, empathetic approach to every file. She focuses on practical, cost-effective solutions, working closely with clients to resolve matters efficiently, especially in sensitive family and immigration cases.

Family-oriented and community-minded, she values minimizing conflict and protecting children’s well-being, while enjoying time with loved ones, cooking, and life-focused podcasts.

Ankit holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree and a Bachelor of Technology Degree from Kurukshetra University in India, reflecting a strong analytical and well-rounded academic background.

He began his legal career in India, practicing for over four years in Trial Courts and at the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He gained expertise in Criminal, Civil, Family, and Property Law, and provided pro bono assistance in a consumer fraud case for farmers, resulting in a successful settlement. After immigrating to Canada as a permanent resident, Ankit broadened his experience through roles in security and municipal bylaw enforcement. He earned his NCA qualification in March 2025, a key step toward practicing law in Canada.

Known for his client-focused approach, Ankit emphasizes clear communication, trust, and active listening. He speaks English, Hindi, Haryanvi, Punjabi, as well as Urdu.

Gary holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, a Bachelor of Laws Degree, and a Master of Laws Degree, and completed the NCA accreditation process in 2024. He is also a member of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh, India.

Prior to immigrating to Canada, he practised as a tax attorney in India, gaining experience in taxation and regulatory matters.. He later worked as a consultant with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, where he assisted judges in Company Courts for three years on matters involving mergers, amalgamations, and corporate insolvency.

Following his relocation to Canada, Gary worked with Toronto Dominion Bank in the Corporate division within the Real Estate Secured Lending Department (Operations), where he focused on real estate law compliance, lending practices, and regulatory requirements.

Gary currently serves as a Student-at-Law, where he assists with a range of legal matters, including litigation, family law, immigration, and real estate-related files. He has appeared before the Alberta Court of Justice and the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta and has experience handling high-conflict matters. His work involves supporting clients through complex legal processes while focusing on practical, solution-oriented outcomes.

Outside of his professional work, Gary enjoys reading legal literature, exploring new places, and spending quality time with his wife and daughter.

Israel completed his legal studies and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Johannesburg in South Africa. After relocating to Canada, he worked as a judicial assistant at the Supreme Court of British Columbia, where he supported court operations and gained valuable insight into the judicial process. He also worked briefly as a Client Advisor in customer service at the Royal Bank of Canada, developing strong communication and client service skills.

Israel has experience conducting legal research, drafting court documents, and interviewing clients. He is currently performing administrative duties at Lema Law Chambers as a legal assistant and is expected to transition into an articling role in June 2026.

In his free time, Israel enjoys spending time with family, playing and watching tennis, staying active through workouts, and listening to music.

Komal joined Lema Law Chambers as a Practicum Student and transitioned into the role of Legal Assistant. She is a recent graduate of Red Deer Polytechnic, where she earned her legal assistant diploma.

In her role, Komal supports various areas of legal practice and contributes to the firm’s day-to-day operations. She assists with coordinating meetings between clients and lawyers, facilitates timely communication, and is committed to maintaining a high standard of client service with a strong focus on confidentiality and professionalism. Her organized and approachable nature allows her to effectively support both clients and the legal team.

Outside of work, Komal enjoys spending quality time with her family and watching movies. She values meaningful connections and brings a positive and dedicated attitude to both her professional and personal life.

Operations Assistant

Metuge attended and graduated from the following institutions: Osgoode Law School, Lincoln University, Windsor University, and the University of Yaoundé, bringing to the firm a diverse academic background for his role.

At Lema Law Chambers, Metuge plays a solid foundation of managing and supporting lawyers. He supports both lawyers and clients with everyday operations, from managing complex schedules to coordinating clear and timely communication. Metuge also assists in conducting legal research and assisting the team to stay organized and prepare matters.

Outside of work, he is actively involved in community organizations and enjoys spending quality time with his family.
